Scoring with lighting solutions

Lighting in the kitchen has become one of the most important topics in recent years. The fact that the living room and the kitchen have merged into one has a lot to do with this, of course. We still cook in the kitchen, but we also live, work and talk there. And so the lighting concept, and at Van Opstal the lighting range, must also follow suit.

Creating a new version of a catalog, it is a huge feat every time. "So we don't do this every year," adds Sophie Werbrouck of Van Opstal immediately. "Once every three years we tackle this. Our deadline is always the internationally known wood fair Prowood in Belgium. There we always want to show and give our visitors the new version. Additions to the range, products we no longer offer, upgrades, technical and technological progress, we look at everything and make it completely up to date again. Meanwhile, our lighting assortment had some nice additions, from the Italian manufacturer Domus Line. We showed these with great pride during Prowood and, of course, they also got a nice spot in our latest catalog."

From hot to cold and back

"Lighting in our range, it's not new," said Sophie. "But until now it was about LED lighting where the color temperature had to be chosen and could not be changed. Dimming was of course already possible but once you chose warm white or cold white, then the choice was made. Now we have introduced D-motion lighting where with the same light source the switch can be made from one color temperature to another. If you're working in the kitchen making dinner, you need enough light where you can also concentrate better. So cold white, 4000 K, because the higher the number, the colder the white light. Are you done making dinner and get cozy at the table, then a warmer atmosphere is more fun and so you can change to, say, 3000 K. All via a switch or an app."

From the automotive sector

Sophie continues: "D-motion is Domus Line's smart lighting story, Wave is an exclusive technology from the manufacturer. You can compare Wave technology to what we see now in the most innovative lighting units in the automotive sector. Dynamic switching of different light sources connected to one system, progressive and synchronized, has that element of surprise and also the sense of beauty that can add value to any lighting concept. Of course, the applicability of both D-motion and Wave is not limited to the kitchen alone, but can be developed into beautiful concepts that can be implemented throughout the home."

Ideal platform

What Prowood is in Belgium, the trade fair HoutPro+ is in the Netherlands. "We are proud to attend both of these trade fairs as an exhibitor," Van Opstal confirms. "The next edition of HoutPro+ is still far in the future, early November 2025 to be exact. However, we already know that we will be showing our lighting range. So be sure to mark it down in your calendar now!"
