ATAG Benelux sets sustainable course with new transport methods

To further reduce its transportation footprint, ATAG Benelux is working with new transportation methods. Incoming and outgoing goods that were previously transported by regular truck traffic now mostly go by boat, train and trucks running on organic diesel to their destination. This reduces CO2 emissions per transport by at least 50%. The ultimate goal is to achieve an energy-neutral transportation network.

Incoming goods are now transported from the port in Rotterdam to Doesburg by barge, resulting in a CO2 reduction of 60%. From there the goods, such as refrigerators and ovens, are transported by truck to the ATAG Benelux transport center in Duiven.

Multimodal transportation

Products coming from the ATAG factories in Slovenia and Italy are now transported by train instead of truck for most of the distance. This means there are two to three fewer trucks on the road every day, to and in the Netherlands. From the factories, the products are put on trains to Duisburg, Germany. Then the goods come to the Netherlands by truck. This reduces CO2 emissions per trip by 50%. This route will be made even more sustainable by running trucks on organic (HVO) diesel.

Outbound transportation

Trucks running on organic diesel are used for longer distances. For outbound transports within the Netherlands of these, CO2 emissions are reduced by as much as 90%.

In addition, ATAG Benelux cooperates with transport companies in the neighboring business park to save unnecessary mileage. Shorter distances will be covered by electric trucks in 2024.

Making transport more sustainable will remain an important spearhead in the coming years for ATAG Benelux, which, in addition to offices and distribution centers in the Netherlands and Belgium, also has factories in Slovenia and Italy, among other countries.
