The steellook is no longer exclusively reserved for industrial lofts or rural villas, aluminum frames have become an integral part of contemporary interior design. Those who, as a woodworker pur sang, also want to realize metal components can rely on LMC, which has just expanded its production capacity for custom aluminum frame doors.
It started as a trend, but grew into a fixture: steellook frame doors have since earned their stripes. "For kitchen and interior builders it is not only an opportunity but also a challenge," knows Philip Maljers, Managing Director of LMC Benelux, "because not every woodworker is keen on metalworking. It's a different trade and they often lack the necessary tools and machinery." The company has been serving furniture makers and interior designers with fittings and custom solutions, such as custom aluminum frame doors, among others, for nearly a hundred years. With the additional machine, production of these can now be ramped up considerably. We went to see them at LMC's base of operations in Bondues, just across the French border.
There we get an insight into the company's rich history. Inspirer Léon Masson knew how to make a difference in the last century by understanding what his customers really needed. He specialized in making hinges that found their way into the many new furnishings made after the two World Wars. This solution-oriented thinking was clearly passed on from one generation to the next: "That's why today, in addition to more than 10,000 product references, we also offer many semi-finished products in order to support small to medium-sized interior designers even better in realizing custom work. This gives them more decisiveness and clout to compete with industrial players," Philip explains. "They have embraced the metal trend in their kitchen designs and we want to offer customization specialists that opportunity as well."
With the new CNC-controlled machining center, LMC can already effortlessly meet the continuing demand. We walk past a large stock of profiles: from narrow to wide and everything in between. The black and silver profiles will soon be joined by white ones, as they are coming back into the picture, Philip knows. On the assembly table, the frames are expertly assembled and the glass is carefully inserted. This can be clear glass, but ribbed, fluted or smoked glass is also possible. A number of room-high glass dressing room doors are already ready for transport. Carefully packed, because the packaging cardboard is also rolled out of a machine here perfectly sized.
The ready-to-go doors were ordered online. "We developed an online configurator that guides you through the ordering process," Philip explains. "You choose the profile, the color and the glass. You enter the dimensions you want, then the direction of rotation and the position of the hinges and any
handles or knobs. The price is calculated immediately after which you can order immediately, or save the project until your end customer approves your quote. About two weeks later, your order is delivered, possibly directly to the construction site." Ease of use comes first: "The configurator is structured in such a way that it is almost impossible to forget things or make mistakes. Moreover, the employees in our customer service department check every order and call you if they suspect that you have overlooked something after all. Proactivity and efficiency, that's what we stand for."
