ATAG Benelux, supplier of kitchen appliances and consumer electronics, announces that now 25% of ATAG brand products are packed EPS-free. The goal is to package and distribute all ATAG brand kitchen appliances EPS-free by 2025. Although EPS-free packaging is not yet mandatory in Europe, the brand wants to lead the way in this and respond to internationally changing laws and regulations.
Currently, all 80% of the induction cooktops with built-in extractor, 65% of the extractor hoods and 60% of the wine air conditioners, are EPS-free wrapped in Honeycomb cardboard; sturdy paper with a hexagonal inner structure.
Jan van Os, Innovation & Sustainability Manager, explains that there are now two challenges that the R&D department is focusing on: ‘We are investigating how we can also package larger products, such as refrigerators, safely and more sustainably. In addition, we need to have sufficient cardboard, which is why we have set up partnerships so that we can work with our partners to find the best solutions.’
The goal is to pack and ship 50% of products without Styrofoam by the end of 2024. Products for the Australian market will already be 100% wrapped in paper by then, as devices lighter than 45 kilograms will be required to be packed EPS-free by July 1, 2025.
