In custom interiors, lighting is often integrated directly into furniture. This calls for compact lighting concepts that can be easily adjusted during installation or use. With MAGY, Van Opstal introduces a magnetic lighting system in which light modules can be attached to and repositioned at any point along an electrical profile.

The system is based on a narrow, electrified profile that can be integrated into furniture or surfaces. Inside the profile are two rails to which various light modules are attached using magnets. This makes it easy to install or reposition fixtures at any point along the profile.

According to Sophie Werbrouck, managing director at Van Opstal, the development stemmed from a clear demand from the market. “We noticed that other companies were already working with similar systems and that there was a demand for small, sophisticated spotlights to, for example, literally put objects in a cabinet in the spotlight. Lighting is becoming increasingly important in custom-made furniture. In a display case, you want to highlight certain objects, while in other areas you actually need functional lighting.”

According to her, MAGY aligns with this trend and, at the same time, complements the company’s existing lighting lineup. “For many interior designers, it’s convenient to be able to work with a single supplier. We also saw the potential in a system that’s easy to install.”

Light strip or accent lighting

The MAGY collection offers a variety of lighting modules. For example, there is a linear LED profile that provides an even line of light, such as in cabinet compartments or under shelves. The microprofiles use high-density LED technology, creating a continuous light pattern without visible light points.

In addition, there are compact spotlights that snap onto the track magnetically. These spotlights are adjustable and suitable for accent lighting in niches, display cases, or open cabinets. Both the linear modules and the spotlights feature an integrated power supply and reverse polarity protection, allowing them to be mounted on the profile in any direction.

According to Werbrouck, the system’s added value lies primarily in its flexibility. “It’s an accessible and user-friendly solution. Users can decide for themselves where to place a spotlight and move it later if they wish. The concept is modular and can be easily adapted to the user’s needs.”

Integration into the furniture

The profile mentioned above can be installed either as a recessed or surface-mounted component. For recessed installation, for example, it can be placed directly into a milled groove in a wooden panel, creating a seamless integration.

Thanks to the magnetic design, light modules can also be added or removed without tools. This makes it possible to tailor the lighting precisely to the design of the furniture or the function of a space.

According to Werbrouck, this makes the system suitable for various segments within the interior design industry. “It can be used by both furniture manufacturers and interior contractors. The great thing about this system is that it’s appealing to many markets, from custom interiors to kitchen construction. The power supply is also easy to connect, which simplifies installation.”

Van Opstal expects this smart lighting solution to be used primarily in display cases, closets, and kitchen interiors, where lighting serves both functional and decorative purposes.
