Through the eyes of the designer: the berbel Downline series in a new look

Stefan Ambrozus on form, function and the further development of a successful product

At area30, berbel presented the further development of the successful Downline series. With the new SCHOTT CERAN® matte line black surface, berbel expands the Downline family with a stylish variant that combines design, feel and ease of use in a special way.

“From its introduction, the Downline was a strong statement in the market,” said the company.” says designer Stefan Ambrozus, who is responsible for the design of the new generation. “But the demands on modern kitchens are changing. It was clear to us: as the living space evolves, a successful product like the Downline must also grow with it. Our goal was to maintain the identity while taking the next step.”

Form, function and delicacy

The Downline series impresses with a clear, minimalist design that brings together technical precision and aesthetic purity. The centrally positioned air intake with square shape and vertically arranged blades optimizes the extraction of cooking and frying vapors and at the same time defines the characteristic appearance of the series.

Ambrozus explains: “The shape is more than an aesthetic choice. The rectangle and clean lines deliberately fit the design language of modern kitchens and strengthen the Downline's visual identity. Technology and design come together perfectly here.”

In addition, he emphasizes: “In the higher end, we see a clear trend toward authentic materials with character. They form an exciting contrast to the geometric form language of modern kitchens, exactly that balance we wanted to make visible in the new Downline.”

Operating comfort redefined

The operating logic has also been revised. With Premium Control, the Infinity Pro, Advance and Performance models can be operated intuitively via the elegant touch panel, optionally complemented by precise rotary knobs in black or stainless steel look. This ensures maximum design freedom and a personalized cooking experience.

The new surface Matt Surface thereby offers clear advantages in everyday use: it is anti-reflective, easy to care for and less susceptible to wear and tear - perfectly suited to open kitchens with lots of daylight.

Versatility in four variants

Whether Compact, Performance, Advance or Infinity Pro, each model of the Downline family is tailored to specific needs. While the Compact represents the entry-level model, the Infinity Pro with extra-large cooktop and clever Clever Cook functions offers maximum freedom during cooking. The proven berbel principle ensures efficient air cleaning by centrifugal force in all models, completely without a grease filter.

“I am proud of the new Downline family,” concludes Ambrozus. “The internal logic, the technical development and the aesthetic coherence make it a product that will last for years.”

He summarizes: “What inspires me is when technology and design merge so naturally that a product emerges that works intuitively and is emotionally compelling at the same time. That, to me, is good kitchen design.”
