When two big names join forces, something special always happens. SMEG and Stefano Boeri, a renowned architect and professor in Milan, collaborated to develop the Isola collection. The concept is clear: these appliances are meant to be seen. And where better to host an exclusive preview of such a design line than at the H’ART Museum in Amsterdam?

With Isola, SMEG challenges the notion that kitchen appliances should be integrated as discreetly as possible. The cooktops, range hoods, and even the lighting fixtures in the Isola collection are specifically designed to catch the eye—to take center stage in the kitchen, both literally and figuratively. “The name Isola deliberately refers to the kitchen island—the place where the striking design really comes into its own,” explains Eline Kocks of SMEG. “You don’t hide a collection of appliances created in collaboration with a renowned designer like Stefano Boeri.”

Design That Demands Attention

SMEG has therefore made a conscious choice to create a cooktop that can make a statement, add depth, and even draw attention. It takes a prominent place on the kitchen island, where its refined design truly shines. “Isola comprises three series: Flat, Alta, and Alta Pro,” says Kocks. “Flat is minimalist and elegant, with softly rounded corners and a sleek silhouette. Alta adds more dimension thanks to a subtle raised edge—available in stainless steel or matte black—which creates extra depth and an architectural look. The showpiece of the Isola collection is the Alta Pro, available with or without a downdraft hood. In the version with a downdraft hood, it automatically extends during cooking and retracts back into the cooktop when cooking is finished. The integrated LED lighting gives the Alta Pro an extra touch of elegance.”

Light as a design element

Lighting plays a prominent role in the Isola philosophy. Light is more than a functional necessity; it is an integral part of the design concept. A prime example of this is the lighting fixture included in the collection, a lighting solution that perfectly complements the cooking zones. “The light can be adjusted in terms of intensity and color temperature, allowing the kitchen to easily transform from a workspace into an inviting living space,” Kocks explains.

A statement piece in the kitchen of tomorrow

SMEG once again beautifully combines technology, architecture, and interior design in the Isola collection. “The kitchen world is once again evolving toward appliances that are meant to be visible, exude personality, and actively contribute to the atmosphere of the space,” Kocks concludes. “With Isola, we’re keeping pace with this evolution and offering kitchen professionals interesting options. The cooktop becomes the focal point of an interior design concept.”
