Invisible power in tall cabinets

Unique hardware capitalizes on sleek interiors and space savings

When designing tall cabinets and wall units, every millimeter counts. Interior designers therefore look for solutions that combine aesthetics, comfort and functionality, without compromising on space utilization. Every detail matters: hardware must be powerful and discreet, flexible to mount and easy to adjust. Less volume in the cabinet also means more usable space for design. The new FREEslim flap hardware from Kesseböhmer addresses exactly that.

At just eight millimeters thick, FREEslim flap is remarkably slim. “The hardware is even thinner than an iPad,” says Sophie Werbrouck, managing director at Van Opstal, distributor of the system in Belgium and the Netherlands. “That makes it unique in the market. You gain space in the cabinet, but without sacrificing function or comfort.”

Thin, discreet and versatile

FREEslim flap was developed for tall cabinets and offers great freedom in mounting. The hardware can be mounted on the side wall or milled in completely. In the latter case, the system disappears almost completely from view. “For designers and interior designers, this is a big advantage,” Werbrouck says. “You maintain a clean interior appearance, while the hardware remains accessible.”

This system is also flexible in use. FREEslim flap is available in a soft-close version for cabinets with handles, as well as in a push-to-open variant for handle-less fronts. Depending on door size and weight, the strength of the hardware can be easily adjusted. “So with one system you can cover a lot of applications,” says Werbrouck. “That makes it practical and efficient in inventory management at the same time.”

Comfort in any position

An important functional feature is the multi-position stop mechanism. The valve stays open in any position and does not move further than the user wants. “This significantly increases comfort. Especially with tall cabinets, it is important that a flap does not automatically close again or open further unexpectedly.”

Finishes were also considered. Cover caps are available in anthracite, light gray and white, so that the hardware blends in with the cabinet interior. Installation is also quick and easy thanks to Kesseböhmer's well-known and renowned ClickFixx system. “With very few operations, you can assemble the hardware and also adjust it perfectly afterwards.”

Start of a broader family

FREEslim flap is the first product within a new FREEslim family. “Today we are launching the classic flap version,” Werbrouck concludes, “but next year FREEslim fold, slide and swing will also follow, respectively variants for folding, sliding and turning movements. This makes the concept particularly interesting: with one ultra-thin basic principle you will soon realize a whole range of cabinet solutions.” For interior designers, this means more freedom in design, without additional complexity in assembly or adjustment.
