If it is up to kitchen industry professionals, 2024 will be the year of exciting and surprising trends. Of course, we know that aesthetic preferences and technological developments evolve unabated each year, yet the question remains whether the industry is largely in agreement about the possible upcoming trends. Spoiler alert: this is not always the case!
And that makes it quite difficult when you have to make choices during the consultation in the showroom with the orientating consumer. Or, if you have to make decisions in the area of your own purchasing or what you do or do not show in your showroom or inspiration house! Because what is true? Which trend is true? Which suggested development is just hype or simply untrue? And, if there is any consensus ... is this consensus justified?

We do not draw a conclusion ourselves. You may do that, dear reader. The overview published below - consider it a brief summary of everything we found - we have compiled from various trend reports, blogs and visions from leading kitchen companies in the Netherlands.
First, then, what is largely agreed upon: the harmonious fusion of nature and technology. In practice, this translates to the logical return of many natural tones and vibrant patterns in the look and feel of consumer kitchens. The consensus points to a shift toward lighter woods, enriched with deep textures that bring the kitchen space to life.
Floral prints and vintage patterns are making a powerful comeback, especially popular with younger audiences who dare to experiment with prints with boldness. This trend signals a shift to a more vibrant and expressive kitchen, combining natural elements with personal expression.

All sources (read: kitchen specialty stores and chains) emphasize the indispensable role of technology in the kitchen of 2024. From integrated appliances within elegant niches to the expectation of even more smart technology, the future kitchen is simply smart and sustainable. Sustainability remains a core aspect, with a focus on eco-friendly materials and efficient use of space, such as stacking furniture to make the best use of available space. The latter, by the way, will not only be a trend for the year 2024. Even if you look at trends in the housing and construction market in general, you can expect that, on average, we will be living, living and working in fewer square meters. Space is becoming scarcer. And so the kitchen industry is (rightly) thinking more and more about greater efficiency in less space. So this goes beyond the year 2024.
Several subject matter experts highlight the niche as a signature trend, seamlessly integrating appliances into the design, and making the kitchen a playground for colorful expression. From shades of sand to bold colors such as green, yellow, pink, and blue, there is a clear movement toward kitchens that exude personality and warmth.

Well ... you name it. Who is right? Because, when discussing whether the handle-less kitchen will continue to evolve or whether we should still expect a return of handles on cabinets and drawers, we find quite a few contradictions. It is perhaps too grotesque to conclude now that there is a split in the market on this topic, but what is true? If we stay safely in the middle: at least the consumer is looking for as much desirable level of minimalism as possible. The classic touch of design is and will remain essential.
Two of the "sources" state unequivocally that industrial influences and the use of natural materials and colors remain central to the 2024 trends. The appreciation of traditional, country elements alongside classically modern and light kitchens indicates a multi-faceted approach to kitchen design. Black kitchens also make a statement, indicating a trend of powerful visual contrasts.
Given the sometimes contradictory named trends, the strength of kitchen design in the year 2024 surely lies in a good deal of personalization and (much-needed) flexibility. Of course, any kitchen retailer will want to offer a wide range of options that can appeal to both those who love modern, handle-less designs and those who lean toward more traditional or industrial looks. Therefore, that choice can be made. One's own judgment will have to determine that. But ... focus on sustainability and smart integrations is certainly the constant factor, which cannot be ignored. At least, if you want to sell a kitchen.
