Lighter and increasingly durable kitchens

Japandi in the spotlight at the Küchenmeile

During our visit to this year's Küchenmeile, one trend was clearly not to be missed: the Japandi style. This harmonious combination of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian warmth was on full display at several kitchen manufacturers, bringing a remarkably serene atmosphere to the showrooms.

Among others Keller Kitchens, KH Möbel System and Probewa had Japandi setups on display, focusing on the use of natural materials and a quiet, subdued color scheme. German manufacturers such as Pronorm and other prominent brands also saw this style repeated over and over again.

Japandi-style

The Japandi style brings a timeless design by combining earthy colors such as beige, soft gray and moss green with high-quality materials such as light wood and ceramic. Many designs additionally used black accents, offering a modern contrast without disturbing the calm and simplicity of the whole. At almost every booth, the kitchen was uncluttered, with open shelves displaying only the finest items, from handmade dinnerware to carefully selected accessories.

Focus on functionality

Also notable was the strong focus on functionality: minimalism was trumped and every element has a clear function, which fits perfectly with the conscious lifestyle that is becoming increasingly popular today. The kitchen setups thus not only provided a sense of aesthetic calm, but also showed how well thought out and user-friendly a kitchen can be.

It is reminiscent of the industrial trend of several years ago, which gained tremendous popularity with its rugged, timeless look and is still frequently found today. The question now is: Will the Japandi style become a similar classic in kitchen design? Or are we dealing with a trend that will disappear in a few years? With the growing focus on sustainability and simplicity, it seems that the Japandi style may well last longer. One thing is certain: at this Küchenmeile, it was the trend that met us everywhere, and it seems that the love for this style will not go away for a while.

New standard in sustainable kitchen design

Keller Kitchens sets a new standard in sustainable kitchen design with the enduura® kitchen. This kitchen combines style and environmental friendliness by using bio-based and reusable materials. With enduura®, Keller aims to contribute to a circular economy, in which raw materials are used again and again.

The base of the enduura® kitchen consists of biobased MDF, made from reclaimed wood from the timber industry. This material contains no formaldehyde and is therefore healthier for the indoor environment. The top layer, a plant-based HPL, is also biodegradable and produced CO2 neutrally, further reducing the ecological impact.

Enduura® kitchens are finished with eco edge banding and are available in three timeless colors: Polar White, Mineral Gray and Lava Black. For a completely sustainable kitchen, Keller also offers countertops such as Greengridz® and CentoTop®, which use fewer resources and are recyclable.

To address the plastic problem, Keller makes handles from recycled ocean plastic, such as old fishing nets. In this way, every kitchen contributes to making the oceans cleaner. With enduura®, Keller offers a stylish and conscious choice for a sustainable future, without compromising on quality.

Many additions in the cooling field

It was also a good kitchen fair in the field of refrigeration and freezing. For example Samsung with a fridge-freezer where AI has been added, something that should make a lot of things a lot easier for the end user. You can read more about this elsewhere in the magazine.

Also Inventum pays great attention to their built-in refrigerators. The refrigerators feature ambient light which provides even lighting. This eliminates shadows in the refrigerator, making it easier to see the contents of the refrigerator without opening the door all the way. At the IKK1786GS and IVR1786GS feature a gray interior which creates a stylish and
chic look.

In addition, wider models are coming to almost all brands. At Inventum, these flagships are the new IKV1945S and IKV1947S. With their XL size, they boast extra storage space. The cabinets are both 194 cm high, and the IKV1947S is also 70 cm wide. This makes this refrigerator as much as 40 percent larger than the IKV1788S with its usual size.

Cradle to cradle freezer

In the refrigeration and freezing division, made Liebherr impression. They presented at Küchenmeile the FNXa 522i, the world's first freezer with Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze status. This innovative appliance uses BluRoX vacuum technology, which contributes to sustainability and circular economy. Thanks to thinner insulation walls, the 30% freezer offers more usable capacity than comparable models, and it achieves the highest energy efficiency rating (A).

The Cradle to Cradle Certified® certification confirms that the materials used are fully recyclable. This milestone highlights Liebherr's commitment to a sustainable future and a longer life for their products. See more on this elsewhere in the magazine.

Light kitchens, light appliances

The Miele and V-ZUG Pearl built-in series perfectly match the trend of light, neutral colors in the kitchen. Miele showed at the Küchenmeile, in addition to Matte Black Generation 7000, a Pearlbeige built-in line, a sophisticated color that combines shades of gray and beige and is intended for the ArtLine collection. At V-ZUG, they had already presented it last year, but still didn't miss it in the showroom of this exhibition edition. The Pearl shade exudes a subtle, luxurious sheen and is ideal for combining with light pastels as well as dark woods and black. This makes this color more versatile than you might think beforehand. Its flexibility in color use allows it to create a calm yet chic look in almost any interior. Pearl may seem to be entering a more timeless era with this. The appliances are designed to blend seamlessly into kitchen setups. These light and neutral colors create a soothing character of natural materials,

Induction in color

At the Küchenmeile trade fair, this trend was further reinforced by eye-catching colored induction hobs from brands such as Wave and Falmec

A kitchen lifetime back we saw a revival of white built-in appliances. However, this trend quickly faded into the background, perhaps due to a lack of versatility in combination options. That current color schemes such as beige and pearl
colors do prove more versatile this Küchenmeile. Indeed, the current revival of colored appliances also seems to have a deeper basis precisely because of the increasing demand for personalization and unique kitchen designs. Thanks to modern color techniques, built-in appliances or induction hobs in natural tones are now more subtly incorporated into kitchen design, making them more compatible with popular light and wood tones, and an induction hobs, for example, can combine well with the soft earth tones of series such as Pearl by Miele and V-ZUG. With this new approach, we hope that colorful kitchen appliances will have a lasting place in the kitchen landscape.
