First freezer with Cradleto Cradle Certified® status

German refrigeration and freezer specialist earns standing ovation

Modest as ever, but with a specialism to say ________. This was Liebherr at IFA Berlin and the Küchenmeile in Löhne (D). Not only did Liebherr present a French Door fridge-freezer combination with Water & IceCenter for the first time, but they also caused a real furor with their first freezer (FNXa 522i) with full cradle to cradle status. The specialism of the German family business celebrated heyday.

Thanks to the groundbreaking BluRoX vacuum technology, the circular economy is closer than ever. At the trade fairs, Liebherr presented the innovative FNXa 522i, the first freezer, but actually also the world's first major household appliance with Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze status. This is thanks to the unique BluRoX insulation technology used throughout the appliance. A milestone for Liebherr in the pursuit of sustainability and a circular economy.

Comprehensive certification

The Cradle to Cradle Certified® certification, awarded by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, confirms the "environmental quality" of the FNXa 522i. For example, the materials used are fully recyclable. The perlite can be easily removed and reused without additional processing, and because the BluRoX insulation is not bonded to surrounding components, the exterior and interior can also be easily reused. The certification process was conducted in collaboration with EPEA, a research and consulting firm, which rated the product on five categories: material health, product circulation, clean air and climate protection, water and soil management, and social justice. After the freezer was evaluated and optimized on all these criteria, the Bronze certification was awarded.

"With the FNXa 522i, we can offer an energy-efficient solution that extends the service life, but also increases the space inside. These are not only advantages for the environment, but also for the customer," adds Jeffrey. "The FNXa 522i achieves the highest energy efficiency class (A) and thanks to thinner insulation walls, the freezer offers 30 percent (80 liters) more usable capacity than comparable conventional freezers. The technology is compactly integrated into the bottom of the freezer in a module that can be easily replaced for maintenance, ensuring a long service life."

Launch French by

Another novelty was that Liebherr comes for the first time with French through refrigerator-freezers. They offer ample storage space, advanced freshness technologies, high-quality materials and stylish lighting. As we have come to expect from Liebherr. That there is interest in a French door fridge-freezer from Liebherr was evidenced by the enthusiasm during the recent trade show days in Berlin (IFA) and Löhne (Küchenmeile).

The exceptional French by refrigerator-freezer combinations come in two designs: with two doors and two freezer drawers or with four doors executed in the familiar Liebherr series Pure, Plus and Prime. When the German family business does something, they do it right the first time, as no fewer than 14 models with different equipment options and colors will be available early next year, including the new TerraSteel.

Practical as ever  

They are equipped with practical features such as the Water & Ice center, which provides cold water, ice cubes and crushed ice, and a FlexDoorSystem, which allows doors to be opened and closed individually. Other notable features include the MoodLight, indirect lighting that can be dimmed and a glass and steel finish for a stylish design and durable finish. 

Worldwide, demand for French through devices is increasing. In Europe, annual growth is 25 percent and in the U.S., 25 percent of all devices sold are French through models.
