For more than 75 years, SMEG has treated kitchen appliances as design objects in their own right. Functionality is always the starting point, but form, materials, and detail define their identity. The new Musa collection underscores this vision with a subtle, layered design language. Contemporary interior trends in an architectural product line? That’s Musa by SMEG.
A new generation of built-in appliances that combine design and technology in a distinctive yet balanced aesthetic. That’s how SMEG describes the Musa collection, developed in collaboration with the Milan-based design studio BorromeodeSilva. “What stands out are the three current design trends that come together as a single cohesive whole,” explains Matthijs de Rooij, General Manager of SMEG Netherlands. “On the one hand, there are the organic, nature-inspired shapes. In addition, there’s a subtle interplay between glossy and matte surfaces, and finally, Musa uses a dark color palette that radiates both strength and serenity.”

When people think of contemporary interiors, they think of softness, tactility, and the experience of light. “We achieve that softness by playing with rounded details and organic shapes,” explains De Rooij. “By combining matte and glossy surfaces, we create a dynamic interplay of reflections. In fact, depending on the angle of the light, the character of the fixtures can shift from understated and minimalist to almost sculptural. For Musa, we’ve resolutely opted for a dark aesthetic—specifically, matte black—always refined with subtle glossy accents. Light is not only reflected but actively used as a design element. Musa is ideal for anyone who wants to approach the kitchen as a holistic concept.”.

The official unveiling of the Musa collection will take place during EuroCucina in Milan (I). There, SMEG will showcase its various ovens and induction cooktops, as well as the wall-mounted range hood, drawers, and built-in coffee machine—all making their debut. The oven lineup includes 60- and 45-cm models, with a choice of different functional levels, ranging from intuitive basic models to premium versions. The latter feature a variety of convenient functions, such as steam cooking, combi-oven modes, and specialized functions like a pizza system with a fireproof stone. De Rooij: “The entire Musa range fits together perfectly to form a single, coherent, and visually striking whole.”

The name SMEG is a household name in the international design world, and with Musa, the Italian manufacturer is solidifying its position. “We are more than just a manufacturer of household appliances,” emphasizes De Rooij. “SMEG develops a consistent and contemporary design language in dialogue with architecture, interior design, and the user. The kitchen experience goes beyond purely functional use. Appliances become part of a harmonious whole in which light, form, and technology together define the atmosphere. That is precisely the direction in which the contemporary kitchen is evolving.”
