Beko Showcases How Recycled Materials Power Next-Gen Appliances on Global Recycling Day

Demonstrating how the use of recycled materials in parts of the product reduces carbon footprints without compromising on quality or durability.

As the world marks Global Recycling Day (March 18), Beko from Europe’s Number 1. home appliances company[1], is spotlighting its industry-leading commitment to circularity. By integrating recycled materials directly into product components while maintaining high performance standards, the brand demonstrates how innovation can support more resource-efficient homes.

According to recent EU research, citizens in 11 member states consider promoting the circular economy the most effective way to tackle environmental challenges, while nearly six in ten respondents say they are willing to pay more for products that are easier to repair, recyclable, or designed to reduce environmental impact.

Responding to this shift, Beko continues to integrate circular design principles directly into its products. Beko’s circular design approach is demonstrated through pioneering innovations integrated into its laundry appliances like RecycledTub. Through RecycledTub, each washing machine and washer-dryer tub can incorporate material derived from up to 60 recycled 0.5L PET bottles. The effort exemplifies how the brand is working towards closing the loop on plastic waste by integrating high-quality recycled materials directly into the core components of its products.

In 2024, Beko’s parent company incorporated 98.8 million waste PET bottles into the production of its related product categories’ components across its multi-brand portfolio, using its patented ‘Leopet’ material technology that transforms recycled PET into a high-value alternative raw material. Since 2018, the company has embedded more than 351 million waste PET bottles into its appliances.[2]

From Refurbishment to Factory Floors

Beyond material innovation, Beko’s parent company is aggressively scaling its circular infrastructure. The company’s ‘Reduce–Refurbish–Recycle’ program is designed to extend product lifecycles and prevent electronic waste. In 2024 alone, the company refurbished more than 114,000 appliances globally, giving them a second life and making sustainable ownership more accessible.

At its UK refurbishment and service site in Peterborough, Beko maintains a stock of over 100,000 different spare parts, equivalent to around 1.7 million units, supporting repairability and product longevity. The facility also manages 55 packaging types and applies quality audits to up to 30% of refurbished units from different product categories before resale, contributing to zero waste to landfill since 2019 . In Italy, a dedicated team of 15 operatives refurbished units across multiple categories in 2024, with products positioned at 10–30% below retail prices. While In Romania, Beko’s parent company aims to return more than 75% of eligible products to circulation, demonstrating the repeatability of circular models.

Industry-Leading Recognition

These initiatives form part of a broader sustainability strategy, which has earned Beko the #1 spot in the Household Durables Industry in the 2026 Corporate Knights Global 100. This recognition, alongside the highest score in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) for the seventh consecutive year and a Gold Medal from EcoVadis, underscores that the company’s environmental performance is driven by long-term commitments and measurable progress.
