This year Häfele is celebrating its 100th anniversary! A company with a story. For what began as a two-man business in Germany's Black Forest has grown into a global market leader.
At 1923When inflation was at its highest in Germany, the still young Adolf Häfele and Hermann Funk took their fate into their own hands and founded the specialist store "Erzeugnisse der Eisenwaren- und Werkzeugindustrie" on December 1. The still young company specialized in materials for furniture makers and moved to Nagold in the Black Forest, at that time the center of the furniture industry. In 1971 appears the first "Der Groβe Häfele," the world's largest catalog for furniture fittings and accessories and is now available worldwide in more than 20 languages. In October 1986 Häfele B.V. becomes active in the Dutch market with the opening of an office in centrally located Apeldoorn. The first Dutch version of "De Grote Häfele" is released 3 years later in 1989. The beginning of De Grote Häfele as the reference work for furniture and construction hardware in the Dutch furniture industry. In 2004 the Dutch website is launched; the starting point of the focus on online sales. Thanks to this digital move, growth has been strong in the years since. Partly as a result of this growth, the 3rd move of the office is a fact. In 2020 Häfele Netherlands enters an open and inspiring new office at Tweelingenlaan 46 in Apeldoorn.
What began as a family business remains a family business. For the past 20 years, Sibylle Thierer has been at the helm of the multinational.
This statement, which she made in 2007, was apt and makes the basis and importance of the Häfele range immediately clear. It turned furniture hardware from an inconspicuous to an indispensable element for planners, designers and employees in the furniture industry.
Last January, Sibylle Thierer handed over her position to new CEO Gregor Riekena, who held various positions at Häfele for many years. The 45-year-old Riekena now becomes the second non-family CEO of the Häfele Group.
Sibylle Thierer, however, remains Chairman of the Board of Directors. Her voice will therefore also be heard in the future decision-making of the corporate group. The generational change now taking place is the implementation of a long-planned and well-prepared succession plan.
"With this change at the top, we confidently underline our start into the next Häfele century," says the outgoing CEO, who remains true to her motto of: "Standing still is a step backward."
The Häfele Group is using its 100th anniversary not only to look back at past achievements, but also for a restructuring under the motto "Ready for the future."
Häfele continues to grow and invest in a sustainable future. After opening the new, fully automated high-rise warehouse in North Rhine Westphalia to ensure fast delivery times, the Häfele Dynamics Centre is now under construction. A high-tech, creative and green complex aimed at developing the region.
Innovativeness, courage and optimism: these qualities have characterized Häfele from the very beginning. With success! The original 2-man business has grown into a global company, Häfele SE & Co KG, with branches in 38 countries and more than 8,000 employees.
