TIME Magazine: Beko among world's most sustainable companies

Number 1 in home appliances sector

Beko has been named one of the world's most sustainable companies by 2025 by the renowned TIME Magazine. Beko achieved an impressive 17th place, making it by far the highest ranking within the home appliances sector. Beko carries the Beko, Whirlpool and Bauknecht brands in the Netherlands.

The annual ranking, produced in partnership with Statista, assesses more than 5,000 international companies based on data-driven KPIs related to the environment, social responsibility and transparency. Beko's rise from place 44 in 2024 to place 17 this year is especially noteworthy because the assessment criteria were tightened by TIME.

"This recognition by TIME and Statista shows that sustainability and scalability can go perfectly hand in hand," said Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Beko. "We are proud to be the leader not only in intention, but more importantly in concrete progress, smart innovations and the greatest transparency in the industry. Scalable sustainability, we call it. It's about building systems where people and planet can thrive at every level and in every market - and that starts with the commitment of our people worldwide."

Beko's high ranking is the result of long-term investments in energy-efficient production, circular economy and a consistent, measurable ESG strategy. Key milestones that have contributed to this recognition include:

  • Deployment of low-carbon manufacturing processes in strategic locations worldwide
  • Large-scale use of recycled materials in product lines
  • Transparent ESG reporting and full supply chain traceability
  • Early adoption of green innovation standards in Europe and emerging markets

The recognition comes at an important time for the sector, in which expectations around sustainability and social impact continue to increase. By integrating sustainability into the business model and chain, Beko shows that structural impact is possible without concessions to commercial growth.

Some key figures from Beko's sustainability results:

  • Installed capacity of renewable energy in production: 90.2 MWp
  • By 2024, 27,835 tons of recycled plastic was incorporated into products
  • Since 2014, 1.86 million discarded appliances have been recycled in dedicated recycling facilities
  • Energy-efficient products accounted for 61.9% of sales, while low-carbon products accounted for 71.5%

A special example of Beko's sustainable production model is the site in Ulmi, Romania, which runs entirely on green electricity. This location is considered an international reference point for sustainable production and has been officially recognized by the World Economic Forum as a "Sustainability Lighthouse.

Bulgurlu says: "This recognition is more than a listing - it is a confirmation of our belief that sustainability must scale. At Beko, we weave environmental awareness into every layer of our organization: from design and manufacturing to our supply chain and the households we serve. As we set course for net zero by 2050, this milestone proves the power of reliable data, a long-term vision and sustainability at the core of our growth."
