A kitchen that thinks with its users
Consumers still look to style and finish for their kitchens. Samsung is happy to add two more important pillars: connectivity and artificial intelligence. The kitchen that thinks along with its users, that's where the manufacturer wants to go. For the kitchen retailer, there is an important task ahead, namely to show concretely how AI is not science fiction but can bring concrete benefits.
Products that learn from users. It sounds like (part of) a science fiction story, but nothing could be further from the truth. Thanks to artificial intelligence, it is possible for home appliances to recognize and respond to certain behavioral patterns. Maurice Howldar, Head of Marketing Home Appliances Benelux at Samsung: “We collect our AI applications under the Bespoke AI umbrella, which also includes the AI Energy Mode, the function with which the refrigerator recognizes your routines and automatically adjusts settings. If you get up at about the same time every day and then also open the refrigerator at the same time, the cooling cycle will adjust optimally, saving you up to 15% of energy.”

The kitchen has become the centerpiece of the home as well as the epitome of flexibility. After all, we spend a lot of time there even when we are not cooking or eating. A Samsung refrigerator is packed with useful features to improve the comfort of the home's occupants. Howldar: “Recognizing ingredients and working out recipe suggestions based on them? You can. But it goes beyond that, you can link the refrigerator to our SmartThings platform. Through theSmartThings app - installed by default on all Samsung mobile devices - you control any device in the home that is connected to the platform. Even devices from outside companies we have a partnership with.”

Connectivity and artificial intelligence in the kitchen, as well as in the rest of the home, is one of Samsung's main pillars. Howldar: “We already mentioned the integration of all appliances into one network and AI Energy Mode. Artificial intelligence sometimes sounds exciting to many people but nothing could be further from the truth. Our AI applications really make everyday life easier. AI can be the perfect household helper for any task and any device. After all, AI learns from your routines and habits and automatically adapts accordingly. Here lies an important task for the kitchen retailer. Explain the power of AI. What can consumers do with AI? Samsung's 7-series oven has an integrated camera. The oven recognizes what is inside and automatically suggests the best baking method. In addition, the camera allows you to keep an eye on your dish and receives a notification when the dish is almost ready. The final decision always remains in the hands of the user.”

Samsung's innovativeness is evident even beyond connectivity and artificial intelligence. For example, the manufacturer is coming out with a new induction cooktop with integrated extractor that is more scratch-resistant than ever. Howldar emphasizes, “As a kitchen retailer, think about the utility room as well. Samsung has integrated a wide range of washing machines and dryers with AI that make consumers” lives easier."
