For example, electronic sink faucets work on the basis of active infrared detection. The moment the hands are in front of the detection, the faucet starts running and closes automatically when the hands disappear from the detection field. These taps are activated by means of a push button and then close automatically after a preset self-closing time. Again, manual contact after washing hands is absent.

Durable faucets

Since the corona pandemic, the frequency of hand washing has tripled and washing time has doubled. With a conventional faucet, gallons of water flow away during the lathering of hands, often for 40 to 50 seconds in a proper handwashing. Overconsumption of hot and cold water has thus increased dramatically and can reach nearly 60 liters of water per day per person. 

However, the ecological and economic challenge should not be overlooked and remains crucial. Equipping public washrooms with DELABIE faucets significantly reduces water consumption. Compared to a traditional faucet, DELABIE's electronic faucets save up to 90 percent water, and in the case of self-closing faucets it is just over 85 percent water savings. The reduced water consumption is due to phased use (faucet closes automatically after wetting and rinsing hands) and to the limited flow rate of three liters per minute, instead of the usual nine liters per minute.

No water stagnation

Electronic faucets offer a periodic flushing function as an added benefit. If the faucet is not in use for a long time (closed plumbing, remote location, unoccupied hotel room et cetera), an automatic flush takes place every 24 hours after the last use. The water then circulates in the faucet and pipes, reducing the spread of bacteria, the cause of many nosocomial diseases (legionella, pseudomonas aeruginosa et cetera).
