Nieuwegein-based Noodkeuken.nl is growing and growing. More and more parties in the kitchen industry are getting to know founder/owner Tjeerd van Schelven and his employees. And, of course, the core of the service: the Noodkeuken®. We are talking about a temporary mobile kitchen that a private individual or business can rent during the renovation of their own kitchen so that they can still cook in the evenings. ’We have expanded our rental range and therefore also our services,“ says Tjeerd. ”Our own stock, which we rent out, has more than doubled in the past year.“

So we are sitting at the table with a satisfied entrepreneur. And rightly so. Because the concept that Tjeerd came up with was only launched on the market three years ago. “We have now added a Small Unit, a Medium Unit, and a Large Unit for the rental of emergency kitchens. The Small Unit is a ‘Rinse/Cook/Cool’ unit with a width of up to 1.8 meters. It is ideal for people who are having their kitchen renovated, which can take a week, for example.”
“With the Medium Unit, up to a width of 2.4 meters, there is the option of adding a dishwasher. And with the Large Unit, up to a width of 3 meters, everything is included. So, from a refrigerator to a sink unit with boiling water taps from Unito, to workspace and a dishwasher. This means we have a solution for everyone that fits within their own budget. In short, a nice collection of pre-selected units to choose from.”
Tjeerd explains that they work according to the principle of modular construction. “This also increases our chances of being able to serve multiple markets in the future. Currently, we are mainly focusing on kitchen specialty stores in the Netherlands, which can draw their customers” attention to this emergency kitchen service. Precisely because of the modular construction, we have become more interesting for contractors, for use at trade fairs, in municipalities, at reception centers, and even housing associations, which benefit from being able to rent out a property even though the planned kitchen has not yet been installed. In that case, it becomes a temporary emergency kitchen!"

In the middle of this year, Tjeerd will also launch his company's new website. “Everything step by step,” he laughs. “But of course, governing means looking ahead, because as far as I'm concerned, the next step for our company is to build an online configurator where customers can literally put together everything themselves, just like when configuring a car, for example.”
When Tjeerd is asked how he sees his company in 10 years“ time, he is positive. ‘Of course, I know that nothing happens by itself, and I am aware that the kitchen industry is unpredictable, but I am convinced that we will be known in the market as a consistent rental company that has repeatedly succeeded in developing innovative products. Moreover, I see it as our mission to make the ’temporary market” greener and more sustainable. There are many opportunities there and, if you ask me, moral and social obligations as well. After all, the market is increasingly demanding sustainable and green solutions. We need to be able to respond to this demand in the rental segment as well. And we will succeed."
