Sustainability Report 2023
By the end of 2023, the Electrolux Group switched 97% of its products that used refrigerants to gases with low global warming potential. This unprecedented effort has led to recognition in the most recent UN Cool Coalition report on the refrigeration industry. This remarkable achievement is just one of the highlights of the Electrolux Group's 2023 Sustainability Report. In 2023, the group obtained 60% of all energy used in its operations from renewable sources.
Marsha Vis, responsible for marketing and communications at Electrolux Netherlands says, "The global non-profit organization CDP gave us an A- rating for our work on climate action and supplier engagement on climate change, as well as an A- for water management. Our group's most energy- and water-efficient products represented 29% of total units sold and 38% of gross profit in 2023."
In early 2024, the Electrolux Group had its second science-based climate target approved by the Science-Based Targets initiative, having already achieved its first target three years earlier. Marsha said, "The new target aims to reduce the company's direct and indirect CO2 emissions (scope 1 and 2) by 85%, and absolute scope 3 CO2 emissions (including use of products sold, materials, transportation of products and business travel) by 42% between 2021 and 2030. This target is in line with the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit the average global temperature increase this century to 1.5°C to avoid most severe impacts of climate change."
"Our sustainability performance in 2023 and our new science-based climate target adopted in 2024 show that together we continue to build a better company, create better solutions and enable better lives," said Elena Breda, Chief Technology & Sustainability Officer. "This highlights the strength of our shared focus on people, the planet and the company."
Indeed, other highlights of Electrolux Group sustainability in 2023 can be identified:
The goal of donating 3 million meals, as set by the Electrolux Food
Foundation, was achieved seven years earlier. 98% of the top 285 suppliers participated in the CDP Supply Chain Program. Stronger processes were implemented to ensure worker and supply chain human rights.
PowerCare washing machines consume up to 30% less energy than the minimum required threshold to achieve the highest energy rating in Europe. The Laundry Tower™ in North America was the group's first stacked solution to receive energy efficiency certification.
The AirFry feature for ovens can help consumers reduce the use of fat in cooking by up to 70% compared to conventional deep frying. The
ProSteam system allows consumers to refresh their clothes with up to 96% less water and 30% less energy compared to a full wash cycle. In 2023, the Electrolux Group launched a new built-in refrigerator that can help consumers reduce food waste by up to 28%.
CO2 emissions from operations (scope 1 and 2) have been reduced by 33% since 2021. CO2
emissions from products sold (scope 3) were reduced by 28% compared to 2021.
