The tension is mounting. It is summer 2023. And, management and employees of the ATAG Benelux company are counting down. Because ... the 1 millionth Pilgrim dishwasher will be produced. A fantastic anniversary after the first one rolled off the assembly line in 1992 - more than 30 years ago. In those following years, about two in ten households had one. Now no kitchen is sold without an integrated dishwasher. Judith Kramer, responsible for marketing and communications, says: "Of course, we are not letting this happy moment pass by lightly. Even better: we are linking a super fun action to it for both dealers and consumers!"
Colleague Johan van Gompel, Business Manager at Pelgrim and with the company for 33 years, remembers well when the first dishwashers were sold in the Netherlands. "At the time, it really was a luxury product. It was very special when you went to someone's home and saw that they had a dishwasher. Very interesting! Now, of course, that is no longer the case. Moreover, we are talking about a completely different generation: the big difference with today is that the dishwashers anno 2023 are more spacious, more energy efficient and quieter."
When introduced in 1992, the integrated Pelgrim dishwasher immediately proved a success on the Dutch market. Judith: "There were really explosive sales numbers. Naturally, there have been many further developments. For example, our latest dishwasher line can be set with a smartphone or tablet and the FanDry technology ensures that everything, even plastic, is completely dry. Moreover, there are models that take care of the right dosage of detergent themselves: AutoDose. So it is literally a matter of closing and turning on. The device thinks, and does the rest."
One million dishwashers is not nothing, of course. "To properly highlight this milestone, we are organizing a festive action. Everyone who purchases and registers a Pelgrim dishwasher through our site between July 1 and August 31, 2023, will receive a Lot Of Happiness ticket, with which there is a chance to win cash prizes of up to 1 million euros!" says Judith. "So we immediately link a good cause to it. Lot of Happiness fights for fair opportunities for every child and donates 50% of every deposit to a good cause for children. Think for example of the CliniClowns, KiKa or the Make-A-Wish Foundation Netherlands." Judith and Johan add that both dealer and consumer receive the lottery ticket.
