Who doesn't want a kitchen that you can show off and also conjure up gems of dishes on the plates of your family and guests? Besides the obvious choices (worktop, appliances, sink, faucet), kitchen hardware and cabinet layouts are also essential.
Is it because of the rising popularity and wide range of cooking shows? Or have we seen the light by staying in our dorms for a long time? We think it's cool to stay home again, and so the kitchen, already the beating heart of every home for a while anyway, is becoming even more important. A kitchen needs to be used, but a kitchen also needs to be visually appealing. Eye-catching eye-catchers aplenty, think countertops and other appliances. But appropriate kitchen hardware supports the aesthetic aspect of a kitchen while convenient cabinet and drawer systems simplify everyday use. Not the first thing you think of when putting together a new kitchen, but something that deserves due attention.

An extra dimension of the kitchen. Carefully chosen kitchen hardware is perfectly capable of taking a beautiful kitchen to an even higher level. Unfortunately, the reverse is also possible. If the kitchen hardware does not support the general style of the kitchen, it will ‘clash’ and the look of the kitchen will be completely gone. “The choice of kitchen hardware is more important than many people think,” echoes the relevant manufacturers. Moreover, the kitchen used to be a separate room that was not considered part of the rest of the home. Theoretically, therefore, it was perfectly possible to give the kitchen a completely different style than, say, the living room. Today, the kitchen has become the beating heart of a home. The kitchen is where people live, work, eat, laugh, cry and talk. Also, the kitchen and the living room are increasingly merging into a cohesive whole, which ensures that the style melts as well. So the kitchen hardware should be beautiful and also the interior should form a logical visual whole.

Ask a hundred people to draw out their ideal kitchen, both visually and practically, and chances are you'll get a hundred different results. We are all different, thankfully, and therefore have different wishes, demands, expectations and dreams of what our kitchen should look like and what layout it should have. A cliché as high as a house, but no less true for that. And let that be just the trump card that various manufacturers of drawer and cabinet layout systems are turning out. Gone are the times when a kitchen cabinet was identical everywhere. The same height, the same width, the same number of shelves. Gone are also the times when corner space was lost. Gone are the times when a cutlery drawer was identical no matter where you looked. Manufacturers' solutions are not identical, any more than end users are identical. These systems may not be visible to the naked eye (only when we show them off to show how convenient they are), they make a substantial difference in the everyday use of the kitchen. Gone are the frustrations caused by too little practical space, gone are the frustrations when once again we can't find cutlery. But again, the golden advice is: think carefully about how you use (or plan to use) your kitchen. It will save many people gray hair.
