'Always having boiling water on hand seemed convenient'

A conversation between consumers

Two busy jobs and a new house that still needs some work. Paola and Edo van Tilborgh have other things to do than spend hours in the kitchen. Getting interior design ideas, for example. Or catch their breath during a romantic weekend in Paris. Their Quooker offers a solution. We caught the following conversation. Nice for the kitchen specialist to hear what consumers think about a Quooker.

They met on the shop floor of a young Internet company and have been a couple for ten years now. Recently, they became owners of their first jointly owned house in a leafy neighborhood. Trees, birdsong and a beautiful house full of authentic details were the deciding factors in their purchase. They hired an interior designer to help them think about replacing the existing en suite and soon got the hang of it. There were doors made of glass and powder-coated steel from floor to ceiling, and blue walls that color beautifully softly with the smoked, white oiled parquet floor. In the kitchen, pink walls catch the eye, as does the marble countertop, on which a Quooker Flex flaunts. 

Do you have the same taste? 

Edo: "We are both such that we like to do everything right. We'd rather not do things, or not do them at all, than compromise. And we only buy stuff that makes us happy."

Paola: "Edo likes sleek and industrial. I'm into colors and gimmicks.
A pink kitchen like that is really my thing."

Which of you wanted a Quooker? 

Paola: "Edo." 

Edo: "Always boiling water at hand, that seemed convenient. Besides, I really didn't want to have a kettle on the kitchen counter."

Paola continued: "When we threatened to go over our budget, I said, 'Let's scrap the Quooker. Let's just take one of those cozy little whistling kettles."

Edo: "No way," I said. I know that with a kettle like that. You don't have good storage space for it, so it's always on the stove. And if you want to boil water it takes forever... I had really set my sights on that Quooker."

Paola: "There was pretty little room for discussion."
Edo: "I think you were a little scared, at first."

Paola: "I thought I was going to burn my fingers."
Edo: "For that, that push/pull control knob is far too cleverly designed. If you want to tap boiling water, you have to perform a completely different operation than for cold and hot water. Meanwhile, Paola is secretly also totally pro-Quooker, mind you."

Paola (chuckling): "I have to admit: I'm pretty glad you pushed it through. I get that a lot. When I make a cup of tea, he's behind me again: 'Quite handy, isn't it?'" 

What do you guys use it for? 

Paola immediately has her answer ready: "Pasta, rice, potatoes, couscous. If something needs to be cooked, we use the Quooker. And tea, of course." 

Edo: "Making broth is so convenient, too. We immediately invested in a nice pyrex measuring cup to go with our Quooker."

Paola: "If a pan is very caked, I fill it with boiling water and let the dirt soak off."

Edo immediately adds: "And, when we scoop ice cream, we do it with spoons that we've held under the Quooker for a while. It's just super easy."

Paolo: "We recently ordered a CUBE so we can also tap chilled and sparkling water from our faucet."

Edo: "The conclusion was and is therefore: maximum enjoyment!"
