The town of Berlicum in Brabant is home to a name that is hugely well known in the world of high-end kitchen design: Culimaat. For forty years, the company has been renowned for its uncompromising approach to design, technology, and finish, as well as its own designs, concepts, and furniture making. Anyone who visits the showroom will quickly understand that Culimaat is not just a kitchen company. Culimaat will soon be moving from Berlicum to Den Bosch.
Director and co-owner Herman Ossenblok talks with visible enthusiasm about the next step Culimaat is taking: “We are moving to a location that better suits the image of our brand. Berlicum will remain our base for the offices and, of course, the furniture workshop. But the new location at Het Sterrenbeeld 25 in Den Bosch fits in perfectly with our ambitions and is less than five minutes away from here.”
The new showroom in Den Bosch will be a 2,000-square-meter high-end location where design, innovation, experience, and gastronomy come together. In addition to the Culimaat showroom, there will be an auditorium for lectures and product launches, a cooking studio for culinary masterclasses and private dining, and a roof terrace for exclusive events and networking meetings. The building will also offer space for other high-end brands and partners from the world of design and interior decoration.
The move not only marks a logistical change, but also serves as a symbolic moment. Culimaat is celebrating its 40th anniversary and is looking ahead with the same drive for innovation that it started with. In our view, it is also a company that has really outgrown the term 'kitchen retailer'.
One example of this vision is Equinox. This is a sculptural kitchen concept that Culimaat describes as a balance between luxury, innovation, and creativity. At the heart of the kitchen is a rotating system that opens and closes in one fluid motion. Every detail, from the polished natural stone to the solid wood and invisible technology, has been designed with one goal in mind: to raise the bar once again. There are really no words to describe this kitchen as it is. Words truly fall short this time. This incredibly special kitchen has even been sold once already. Ossenblok: “We are about to install it. To ever surpass this kitchen again will be a huge task.”
Equinox embodies the pursuit of constantly surpassing oneself. The kitchen was designed for the international market, is constructed in its entirety in Berlicum, and then shipped in parts worldwide, for example to a skyscraper in New York. It is built with a precision that is usually reserved for the world of yacht building or high-end interior design. It is no longer just a kitchen, but a work of art that exists at the intersection of unique design and technical possibilities, such as the moving kitchen parts.
What sets Culimaat apart is the way it has built its identity. Here, it's not about collections, but about concepts. Each project is unique, well thought out, and fully tailored to what is unique. The showroom therefore functions more as a gallery than a shop floor. “Our kitchens are also designed here. We make the kitchen furniture ourselves. Our customers can still tell us their personal wishes, although we do monitor the final look of the design.”
The upcoming move will give Culimaat a new stage, both literally and figuratively. “We had hoped to be ready by the end of 2025, but it will probably be the end of Q1 or beginning of Q2 2026,” says Ossenblok. “And when that moment comes, we're going to celebrate in style.”
The official opening of the new location is planned for spring 2026. It promises to be a vibrant meeting place for architects, designers, entrepreneurs, and high-end brands. A place where inspiration, craftsmanship, and innovation come together.
After forty years of craftsmanship, Culimaat continues to reinvent itself, but in fact we should call this surpassing itself. All kitchens are true works of art. And Equinox? This showpiece deserves all the attention it gets. Culimaat also has international dreams in Milan for this. Ossenblok: “But first, let's finish the move,” he says with a smile.
