A shiny oven, a fresh refrigerator and spotless cooker hood: not only good for your mood, but it also makes appliances use less energy and last longer. How can you do that without spending hours each week cleaning and using expensive detergents? Kitchen brand ETNA has handy tips and solutions that excel in convenience.
A shiny kitchen: good for your mood and energy consumption
1. The induction cooktop: forget expensive sprays
Delicious pizzas, oven dishes and cakes often leave their marks in the oven. Fortunately, more and more ovens have a self-cleaning feature, where you can clean the oven with steam (hydrolysis) or at very high temperatures (pyrolysis). In many ovens, the inner pane is also removable, so you can easily clean it properly. To clean the outside of oven nicely, use soapy water with a small amount of dish soap. Always go over it again with a dry, soft cloth to avoid (permanent) stains.
2. The induction cooktop: forget expensive sprays
An induction cooktop inherently has the advantage of being easy to clean. Expensive sprays and agents are therefore not necessary to make the plate shine again after cooking. A (microfiber) cloth with warm water actually suffices in most cases. If there are a lot of grease stains or food residues on the plate, use some detergent. Never use lemon juice, a scouring pad, abrasive or baking soda to prevent damage.
3. The exhaust hood: roast it regularly in
Cleaning the cooker hood is one of the least favorite cleaning chores but incredibly important. It ensures a healthy indoor climate and a clean cooker hood uses much less energy. When a lot of grease and dust accumulate, the hood has to work much harder. To avoid spending a long time scrubbing every three months, it is smarter to wash the grates once a month. Then there is little dirt on them and it is done in a few minutes. Clean them with soapy water or, if they are suitable for this, put them in the dishwasher.
4. The refrigerator and freezer - keep it simple
Keep your food safe and your energy consumption low: so the refrigerator and freezer should be cleaned and defrosted twice a year. The rubber around the refrigerator is often forgotten, even though a lot of dirt and grease can collect there unnoticed. Clean it with an old toothbrush, not too hot water and some detergent. Do not use caustic agents that can damage the rubber, because you will be even worse off.
These days, many freezers have a No-Frost Plus feature, which means you never have to defrost the freezer. If you don't have this handy feature, defrost the freezer twice a year. After all, just a few millimeters of ice formation can cause 10% more energy consumption.
5. The dishwasher - just like that
Does your dishwasher not smell fresh? Don't immediately run to the store for expensive tablets and detergents. It is advisable to take the following steps first; take out the filter and remove dirt and food residue and check the spray arms. Next, clean the rubber edge in the door well with a toothbrush or cloth, some dirt may nestle here as well. Finally, run the dishwasher once at the highest temperature to remove stubborn bacteria. Chances are your dishwasher will smell fresh again after this!
Tip 1: Oven with self-cleaning function.
